10 Day Itinerary

Lake Eyre Adelaide to Perth 10 Day Itinerary

 Day 1

Fly into Adelaide airport where you will be greeted by your tour crew. We then make our way to Port Augusta, at the head of the Spencer Gulf, for the first night of the tour where we check into our accommodation before our welcome dinner.

Day 2 

Today we make our way up into the Flinders Ranges as we travel North to the town of Marree, one of the original stops on the old Ghan railway, situated on the junction of the Oodnadatta and Birdsville tracks.

· camping (basic cabin upgrade option if available)

Day 3

After a flight over Lake Eyre we continue our journey westward with the opportunity to see Lake Eyre South (the lowest point in Australia) from the ground level lookout. We will also check out the mound springs, where water seeps to the surface from the great Artesian Basin and forms a mineral sand deposit above the surrounding plain. We pass through the remote town of William Creek on our way to Coober Pedy, staying in motel accommodation for the next two nights.

Day 4

Today we have a day exploring the Opal Mining town of Coober Pedy. We take a tour of an underground opal mine as well as try our luck ‘noodling’ on the public opal fields. Free time in town for lunch and the opportunity to wander around this unique mostly ‘below ground’ area.

Day 5

Today we head south following 4wd tracks to join the Eyre Hwy for our journey westward. We will make our way to the coastal town of Ceduna, the Oyster Capital of Australia, for tonight’s motel stay.

Day 6

Back on the road today as we make our way back to the Eyre Highway. Following the original route of the old Eyre Highway, we head to Koonalda Station for a Bush Camp under the stars. · Scenic flight over the Great Australian Bight

Day 7

Today we head down to the coast, for a unique look at the cliffs from ground level. Then it's onto Eucla and the old Telegraph Station before overnighting at Cocklebiddy.

Day 8

An early start today sees us driving along the cliff edge of the Bight and making our way to the restored Eyre Bird Observatory. After spending some time admiring the bird-life and absorbing the history of the Eyre Telegraph Station, we head back up to the highway and travel to Fraser Range station.· Eyre Bird Observatory

Day 9

Today we explore some of the lesser known tracks around the Norseman goldfields before making our way through the western woodlands to Hyden. Our last night takes in the unique hospitality of this warm and friendly wheat belt town.

Day 10

A leisurely morning start will see us making our way back to Perth following some of the back tracks and the little country towns not usually visited. Arrive back in Perth mid-afternoon.

Further Details

Please note that this trip travels through remote locations and some of the night stops are bush camping and unpowered, with no phone coverage (we have satellite service for emergencies, however). We will provide basic toilet facilities and limited hot water showers in such situations. For those traveling as Tagalongs, 4wd vehicles are essential. A list of required equipment will be supplied upon booking.
